Hip Replacement Surgery

Time for surgery!  I can't believe how quickly the day came for my hip replacement. At one point it seemed like it would never come, or that I wouldn't go through with it! The days leading up to Monday were a little crazy. We had to majorly coordinate Simon because our plan "A" fell through. Once we had him taken care of, my mind was a little more at ease.  Aside from Monday being the first morning he woke up without either Dave or myself being there, everything worked out great!

Day of surgery- January 16th 2012

5am Leave the house

5:30 Check in to hospital

7:30 Anesthesia came in... This is when I started to get scared!  Thankfully I was aready hooked up to an IV so the anethesiologist nipped my crying in the bud with a little of the "I don't care" medicine!  Crazy how quickly I turned around!

Look! I'm ready to go!!! Pretty sassy gown huh?

8:00-9:00 Surgery time! One hour to put a newip in! Yikes

The rest of the day was definitely a blur!  I was doped up from the anesthesia and on a pain killer that made me sick all day! Not so awesome.

Although I was aware enough to enjoy the beautiful flowers from our friends, the Koons Family :)

We finally stopped the sicky meds and switched to morphine! Wowser- that stuff is crazy. I would be talking to someone or texting, and then would literally fall asleep mid sentence!

And I enjoyed a delicious meal of grilled cheese, chicken noodle soup and chocolate chip cookies!!!

Dave and Simon visited, and left so I could get some rest.

It was a crazy day, but a successful one!

Fingerpainting fun

Trying to get Simon to sit and concentrate on anything for more than 14 seconds at one time is challenging.  So, today I strapped him in is high chair and made him fingerpaint with me! Ok, I didn't MAKE him, but I wanted to do something "relaxing" for a change!  Although the pictures don't make it look like it, he enjoyed himself and created a few more masterpieces!

Of course, he wanted to eat the paint...

Not 100% sure about this stuff

I think this is the first official handprint we have...
yes I am a bad mom and don't have one from when he was born ;)

I see a penguin in this one... and of course he meant to do it!!!

15 Months!

Wow! Another milestone... Simon is 15 months old today and we cannot believe it!  Where did our little baby go?  Here's a little snipit of what our day has been like...

6:30 am
Woke up for breakfast, where he wanted to sit in a chair like a big boy...

8:00 am
After getting dressed, it was time to tear up his room, play area, and laundry basket... Can you find Simon?!!! Hint: Follow the messy trail :)

(Notice the 2 EMPTY shelves!)

Oh, Hi! Were you looking for me???

10: am
We headed to story time, where I spent about 25 out of the 30 minutes, chasing Simon around the library. Even the singing and dancing wasn't enough to keep his attention. All he wanted to do was pull books off the shelves. I didn't go to the gym this morning, but I sure got a workout!

11:30 am
Lunchtime... Mr. All-of-a-sudden-picky-boy didn't want anything mom made- not a turkey sandwich, no PB&J, etc, so he settled for some grapes, cheese and apple sauce.

12:00
Simon cruised around the house and played with all the things mom tries to keep away from him, like cords, purses, phones, remotes, etc.

12:30
Back to terrorizing his room and toys until we had a minor meltdown!

12:45
NAPTIME! Phew... time for a little break, and blogging :)

Can't wait until he wakes up for more Adventures with Simon!

Still chefs at heart...

I remember so many people telling us that once Simon was born, our creativy in the kitchen would disappear!  I have to say that it is mostly true for me... I am a big fan of keeping things simple and getting a yummy (but not so creative) dinner out for us all to enjoy together. I am learning new tricks for hiding vegetables in things, but aside from that, I keep it simple.

Dave, on the other hand, still likes to "go out on a limb"- as he puts it.  He's always coming up with some creative and beautifully plated dish for us to eat!  The other night we had these amazing burgers and fresh cut french fries!  I am a lucky girl to have a hubby that loves to play with food and create delicious meals for us!

Now we just need Simon to start enjoying meat, too! So far he won't touch it with a 10 foot pole!

Another day at the zoo!

We have been so fortunate to enjoy a mild winter down here in Northern Kentucky! Well I guess the whole country is experiencing it as well! We've been trying to take advantage of our awesome zoo pass on the sunny days.  So the 3 of us spent the afternoon hanging out with the blue manatees, the polar bears, and the penguins.  Many of the animals are off display due to the cold weather, but those still out we playing and having a great time! The polar bear was swimming again and the penguins came right up to the fence to say hi!  We played with the goats in the petting zoo and chased a peacock! Simon is starting to really enjoy all the animals- and the rice krispy treats from the cafe too!

Mr. "Uh-oh"!

Well, it's been about 2 weeks of "uh-oh's" around here! If we drop something- "uh-oh", if we purposely throw food to the dogs, "uh-oh"! You name it, and Simon says it!  I'm sure it will get old, but for now, it's kind of cute!

Grandma Laurene Visits KY

We've had the best week with Grandma Laurene visiting from California.  Even though it's been a little chilly, we've been able to show her around Cincinnati and let her see some of Simon's favorite things to do.  We shopped and ate at Findlay Market, explored at the Children's Musuem, played at Gymboree, and watched the sharks swim at the Newprt Aquarium.  We enjoyed some yummy meals out, and cooked at home too. Just like when Grandpa visited, I rested more than normal and enjoyed some afternoon downtime while Simon napped :)
